Jeremy Lin Named To USA Select Team

New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin (6'3''-PG-88, college: Harvard) is one of 13 players who have been named to the USA Select Team -- the team that will scrimmage with the United States' Olympic basketball team -- U.S. media reported Monday. One report speculated that Lin's inclusion was helped by the presence of Mike D'Antoni, Lin's former coach with the Knicks, on the U.S. Olympic basketball team's coaching staff. Lin had said previously that it would be 'cool' if he were named to the team. Others named to the team include the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NBA draft Kyrie Irving and Ryan Anderson of the Orlando Magic, the 2011-2012 winner of the NBA's Most Improved Player award. Also named to the Select team were John Wall, DeMar DeRozan, Paul George, Gordon Hayward, Kawhi Leonard, DeJuan Blair, Taj Gibson, DeMarcus Cousins, Derrick Favors and Klay Thompson. It is widely believed that the players named to the Select team have the inside track on representing the United States at the World Championships in 2014 and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. The NBA has said that this year's U.S. Olympic team will hold its first practice on July 6 in Las Vegas. The candidates for the U.S. Olympic team's roster have largely been decided. Jerry Colangelo, executive director of the NBA, said the 12-player roster will be announced July 7. Via (AsiaBasket)
