At the recent 2010 National C Division Basketball Championship, North Vista Secondary and Dunman Secondary emerged as the top teams, winning the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively.
Both teams made up for their seniors’ disappointment as North Vista and Dunman Secondary were only able to finish as runners-up in the B Division competition.
In the girls’ final, defending champions Dunman Secondary defeated East Zone rivals Anglican High School 55-46 to retain their title. It was a tightly contested match with Anglican High School taking a first-half 25-21 lead. However, Dunman Secondary came out strong after the restart to stun their opponents 18-9 in the third quarter.
Although Chin Wan Qing of Anglican High School scored a game-high 20 points, her efforts were not enough to overcome the defending champions in the fourth quarter. Dunman Secondary’s Sharon Lee led her side with 18 points while Tan Yue Ting added another 14 to help their side wrap up the match. Sharon Lee was crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final.
In the other final, North Vista Secondary prevented Dunman Secondary from doing the double with a close 50-47 victory. With the win, North Vista Secondary claimed their first ever National C Division Basketball Championship.
Myron Lim did the damage for North Vista, scoring almost half of his team’s points with his game-high 23 points. He was an easy choice for MVP after the match.
Although they fell behind with an early deficit, North Vista looked like they would cruise to their first title in their school’s history after dominating the second and third quarters. However, Dunman Secondary made a late rally in the final period, making life nervous for the North Zone champions. Towards the end of the match, only five points separated the teams, and after Dunman Secondary sunk a pair of free throws, it became a three-point game.
Ultimately, however, North Vista hung on for the win.
